Privacy Policy

Effective date: August 13, 2026

Last updated: August 13, 2026

Kokomo Scanner provides local incident information through its mobile app and browser experience. This Privacy Policy explains what information Kokomo Scanner collects, how it is used, when it may be shared, and the choices available to you.

Information we collect

Account information

When you create an account, we collect your email address, first name, and last name. We also maintain your account status and, when applicable, an Admin or Owner role. Your email address and standard community-member name are not shown in the public incident feed.

Content and activity

We collect information you choose to provide or create, including:

  • comments, replies, and comment photos;
  • incidents you follow and your My Feed selections;
  • notification, appearance, and comment-order preferences;
  • reports you submit about comments, including an optional explanation; and
  • account, comment, moderation, and incident-management actions needed to
  • operate and protect the service.

Comments, replies, and their photos may be visible to anyone who can view the published incident, including guests. Standard community members appear with a privacy-friendly label rather than their real name. When an Admin or Owner chooses to comment personally, that staff member's name is public. Reports and moderation notes are not public.

An uploaded photo may contain metadata placed in the file by your device, such as the date it was created or, in some cases, location information. Kokomo Scanner does not use photo metadata to track your location, but the metadata may remain in the uploaded file. Review photos and remove sensitive metadata or details before uploading them.

Device, notification, and security information

If you turn on device alerts, we collect a push-notification token, broad platform type, app version, notification-permission status, delivery status, and last-seen time. We also retain privacy-limited account security and session records, such as a broad platform label and sign-in, sign-out, first-seen, and last-seen times.

Except for information that may be embedded in a photo you choose to upload, the Kokomo Scanner application does not collect precise location. Its account security and session records do not intentionally store contacts, advertising identifiers, payment-card information, exact device models, authentication tokens, or IP addresses. Our hosting and security providers may process standard technical logs, such as IP address, browser information, and request time, to deliver and protect their services.

Retention and deletion

We keep account information while an account is active and retain other records for as long as reasonably needed to provide the service, maintain security and moderation history, resolve disputes, and satisfy legal obligations.

You may delete your own eligible comments through Kokomo Scanner. A deleted comment is hidden or replaced with Comment deleted. when a placeholder is needed to preserve the context of active replies. Certain edit, moderation, and audit records may be retained to protect the service and document prior actions.

You may delete your account from Account > Profile > Delete my account in the installed app or browser. The action requires your current password and an explicit acknowledgment that deletion cannot be undone. If you cannot access your account, email admin@kokomoscanner.com for assistance. We may take reasonable steps to verify that you control the account. When an account is deleted, Kokomo Scanner removes or disables its sign-in credentials, replaces the profile name with Former member, removes registered devices, notifications, preferences, and follows, and prevents further participation. Public contributions and limited security, moderation, or audit records may remain in anonymized or restricted form when needed for conversation context, service integrity, safety, or legal obligations.
